So much can be said without words, and from the very beginning I've been fascinated by the different ways we do that as a people. Icons, colors, even motion and sound can convey so much information. Bad visuals, information architecture, and phrasing can tank an otherwise brilliant solution. I'm ready to take on my part of the challenge of designing the world we're going to live in.
I'm never afraid to give my opinion and explain the reasoning behind it. I believe the quietest voices can have the best ideas so I ask for critique from everyone in the room, not just those who offer it initially. I actively solicit feedback from both my peers and my managers. I love solving problems and honing others' ideas to make them the best version of themselves. I'm a life-long learner with a passion for finding new, better ways to do things, and I'd love to do it at Microsoft.
I'm deeply immersed in the consumer tech world and I'm always looking for a new app, device, or service to try out. I pick up software very quickly, and I always love learning how to do something I couldn't do before. I believe, like Apple, that my job is in the intersection of technology and liberal arts, which is why I minored in Graphic Design.
I spend pretty much all my free time on the XBOX, and it's an experience I love to share with others. I love how the controller was designed with the correct observation that a majority of the time, your left stick is pushed forward. XBOX is the way I keep in touch with my friends from back home and a way to connect with new people. Feel free to hit me up @quintmeansfive!
Time and time again throughout the job-searching process, the thing that comes up is that Microsoft wants to do good in the world. The hearts and minds of the designers have shown time and time again that your company values truly mean something — like the adaptive controller for XBOX, or the Surface Adaptive Kit. Unlike Meta or Amazon, I know my work at Microsoft would be for the better good of the world.
It started with Surface products, and kept going from there. I think my favorite part of the new Windows 11 experience is the animated dock icons. They bring so much personality to the OS without distracting the user from the task they're trying to accomplish. I want to push the next iterations of Microsofts products, from HoloLens to Windows, to Surface, to XBOX.
