I'm never afraid to give my opinion and explain the reasoning behind it. I believe the quietest voices can have the best ideas so I ask for critique from everyone in the room, not just those who offer it initially. I actively solicit feedback from both my peers and my managers. I love solving problems and honing others' ideas to make them the best version of themselves. I'm a life-long learner with a passion for finding new, better ways to do things, and I'd love to do it at Duolingo.
So much can be said without words, and from the very beginning I've been fascinated by the different ways we do that as a people. Icons, colors, even motion and sound can convey so much information. Bad visuals, information architecture, and phrasing can tank an otherwise brilliant solution. I'm ready to take on my part of the challenge of designing the world we're going to live in.
I'm deeply immersed in the consumer tech world and I'm always looking for a new app, device, or service to try out. I pick up software very quickly, and I always love learning how to do something I couldn't do before. I believe, like Apple, that my job is in the intersection of technology and liberal arts, which is why I minored in Graphic Design.
"Developing the best education in the world and making is universally available" is not only a lofty goal, but an admirable one. I believe in the power of education for everyone — that's why on my resume you'll see I was a Trainer at Apple Retail, and in my projects you'll find QBits!, a program I made in collaboration with our UX club FLUX to teach students how to use industry-standard design tools.
As a visual designer, I love the colors and illustration style of your identity. Friendly rounded corners and bright, expressive faces create a welcoming environment for people to learn other languages. Everything is clean, everything is clear. I personally find myself drawn to the app just for its beauty.
I remember the TED talk from 2011 about how Luis was taking what he learned from CAPTCHA and applying it to translating the web. Behind the memes about Duo threatening you to learn Spanish and the streak paralysis, it's easy to forget that Duoligo exists to make the web more accessible. It's no wonder your IPO went so well.
